Little Houses —a Collaborative Fanzine and Creative Storytelling
Our creative volunteers Ariane and Heloïse made a mensual fanzine in cooperation with the inhabitants of Brivezac.
The Little house is a foldable magazine made in cooperation with the inhabitants of Brivezac. This letter-house tells the stories of the village and its people, transforming words into illustrations. Ariane and Heloïse, our current volunteers at Homade’s Garden, shared that the idea came after they met their neighbours who told them treasure stories and decided to create this letter-house to share them among the locals.
The goal of this project was to do a creative and collaborative project with the community. The Little house shares the gem stories that villagers like to tell, inscribes memories on the paper and creates discoveries among neighbours. The Little house will draw month after month the daily life of Brivezac and its past through our eyes and villagers’ words.
Ariane and Heloïse choose this type of folding because it makes them think about the little houses in Brivezac. This interactive “brochure” also makes the whole reading much more welcoming and exciting for the readers. A lovely personal aspect of this is also the fact that the little folded treasure looks like a letter.
We had super great responses from the community. Not a lot, because most of the villagers were not at home when we distributed it. But, the people who have seen it, loved it, and we met people from neighbouring villages who asked how they can get it.

Whilst thinking of ways to do art with local communities, we are always trying to discover new ways. This recent project, born from the creative hands of Ariane and Heloïse, was inspired by this idea. Do you also do art with the local people of your area? Share with us! We would love to spread the news via our communication channels.
Héloïse Fleury is a graphic designer and illustrator. You can see more of her work here. Ariane Chopani is a student in events planning and public relations.
